Pre-Christmas Portraits

This Saturday morning I ran a portrait session at a local pre-school. Partly I wanted the experience of working in a series of 15 minute sessions, partly I needed some more photos for a college assignment and partly I need to increase my market awareness.

Having just 15 minutes to take a number of photos is certainly a very different discipline. It worked fine with older children who would take some directions but was much more difficult with very young children. It also proved surprisingly difficult with teenagers, but not for the reasons I was expecting. I’d expected petulant pouts but actually got the opposite – lots of posing and messing around, which would be just fine if we’d had more time.

Check out some of the results below. Overall I am pretty happy. There are some things I would have loved to have done better (a couple of the poses for example), but given the constraints mentioned, they’re okay.

Dad and Lad

Christmas is coming and the portrait side of the business is picking up as folk get their photographs taken ready to send off as pressies.

The location for these pics was Godrevy near Hayle, Cornwall. It is the end of the day and the sun is beginning to drop in the sky giving some really lovely soft light and sparkling off the sea. What do people do who don’t live somewhere so beautiful?

Portrait

Christmas is coming and parents are starting to think of presents. Good news for the portrait photographer! Here’s a couple of photos for a family I did this week.

It was a great session – the youngsters behaved well, posed well and produced some great photos. I’m looking forward to seeing which ones they choose – are they seriously going for the really cheecky one (not shown) for this years Christmas cards?

Posing

This was a studio shoot with a difference. A friend mentioned that she had a young man that she was sure would make a good model and wanted to get someone to photograph him! “Hello, that’s me,” said I. So, a date was made, the studio booked and they arrived with a few props. I have never seen anyone pose so naturally without needing any direction what so ever! Amazing. Judge for yourself.
